Adding URL / display names for a cms page

Once you have created your CMS page following the instructions in How to add a page to your site using CMS, you may want to add a display page to the page. The Display Page gives you to option of having a static URL to point your site visitors to. e.g http://www.tendenci.com/tendenci/ instead of http://www.tendenci.com/en/cms/?2252 To add a display page to an existing CMS page, navigate to that page click the pencil icon to edit the page scroll down to the Show Extra Options link Type the word that you want to use as the Display Page FOLLOWING A /. e.g. gala/. Once you click Submit, the path to http://www.yourdomain.com/gala/index.asp will be created. You can now redirect your site visitors to this static page instead of http://www.yourdomain.com/en/cms/?xx. You should use caution when using this feature because if you give another page on your site the same Display Name, it will overwrite any existing pages. The original CMS page that you...

Deleting a user group from my site
Deleting a user group is an admin only function; when deleting a user group from
Tendenci the admin can also choose to delete all the users in that group, or to
just delete the group (and leave the users alone):

Deleting a user group without deleting all the users that are in
    that group:

From the Tendenci console click Manage Users, then Option D2 (Search User
        Groups)

Find the group you want to delete and click the trash can in the row if
        icons next to the group

Leave the "Delete all Users" checkbox unchecked

Press the "Delete User Group" button

You're done - the group has been deleted

Deleting a user group AND all the users that are in that
    group:

From the Tendenci console click Manage Users, then Option D2 (Search User
        Groups)

Find the group you want to delete and click the trash can in the row if
        icons next to the group

Check the "Delete all Users" checkbox

Press the "Delete User Group" button

Enter the site authentication string for security and press "Submit"

Confirm that you want to proceed with the deletion of the group and all the
users in that group - Press the "Continue" button

You're done - the group and all the users in the group have been deleted.

Adding a recurring event to the Calendar module

For any event that occurs on a regular basis following some pattern, you can add a "recurring calendar event" to your organizations Tendenci calendar.

This is located on your Tendenci site at the link below. Access requires proper permissions of course.
/en/calendarevents/calendareventrecurrences/add2.asp

Examples of this would be Sunday Services for a church, monthly board meetings for an organization, or an annual event like an anniversary.

A couple of other thoughts on recurring calendar events. To "register" for an event that instance, meaning that particular time the recurring event occurs, must be converted into a "real" calendar event. This is so you can enable people to register or have that one board meeting near Christmas at a particular restaurant and RSVP without having to add each one individually.

To convert an instance of a calendar event, look at at instance of that event by clicking it on the calendar from /en/cev/. If you are logged in and have edit rights, and at the top of the event you will see text that reads:

"Want to allow registration? convert it to a regular calendar event"

You can't go back. Meaning once you convert an instance of an event it must remain converted although certainly you could turn off registration.

Editing the navigation

The Tendenci Navigation Editor allows you to easily edit the navigation menu(s) on your site, linking to both pages within your site or pages from other sites. If youre using IE 6, youll have to use this help file instead: http://www.tendenci.com/en/helpfiles/v/420. Selecting a Navigation File For most of you, you will only need to edit the main navigation file nav.asp. This file will be selected by default. However; in the event that your site has been configured to support multiple navigation files, you will be able to select them in the drop-down. If you would like to add a second navigation menu to your site, please email support@schipul.com Adding a new Link Adding a new link to your navigation has never been easier. At the top of your editor, you will see a small form to add a new link. The form has 4 fields. Page Title (required) - This will be the text that appears in your navigation to link to your page. URL (required) - The URL you want the navigation...

Designing a custom newsletter that works properly in Outlook 2007

Outlook ’07 changed how it renders emails. Instead of using IE to render, it uses Microsoft Word. Since this is the case, how we design and build emails has and will drastically change. Problems with designing newsletters in Outlook ’07: You are now very limited on background images. You cannot position or set a specific repeat on background images (repeat-y, repeat-x). Ive only been successful using a tiled background. Background colors are not easily supported. The key is that you can specify a background color in a div or table, but as soon as you add another div or table inside, the color goes away. No more Animated Gifs or Flash files No floats or positions are allowed. You will have to build with tables and inline styles. How can we design newsletters that will work? Here are some tips: 1. You can design your layout to not use any background colors or images. A cool thing you can do is create borders or backgrounds that blend...

The project scope

The project scope develops from the kick-off documents and kick-off meeting and is unique for each project. After your project manager has done enough research on your company, the project scope will be created. The scope acts as a recap of the items discussed in the kickoff meeting and is used as a guide throughout the rest of the project. The main topics covered by the project scope are: Overview, Target Audience, and Timeline Overview: The overview section holds client background project goals and objectives Target Audience: The target audience is exposed. Who are you trying to target? Timeline: A typical Web site project usually spans six to eight weeks in development. All projects are unique. The most time intensive elements during the development process are content and approvals. Below is an example of a project timeline: Deliverables Target Date Implement Tendenci provided...

Can I Change The Login Options On My Tendenci Site?
Yes. Tendenci has several log in blocks to choose from. Administrators can change the look of the login area by modifying the self add format in the site's global variables. You will need to look for the Variable named UsersSelfAddFormat. Help file on how to do this: http://www.tendenci.com/en/helpfiles/v/94.
Capturing more information from the registration forms
There are 2 versions of the self registration form - short and long - the one your site uses is based off of the self add format in the global variables.

The short version captures the basics - first name, last name, email, phone, company, username, and password.

The long version captures additional information like address, additional phone numbers, additional emails, the users website, etc.

To change your login options, follow the directions in this help file: http://www.tendenci.com/en/helpfiles/v/94.

Allowing people to add Job Listings without logging in

If you're not charging for Job Listings, you can allow users to post jobs without logging in.

To allow users to add Job Listings without having to log in, you'll need to edit the site variable that controls this,

Go to the Tendenci console.

In the Admin Quick Links section, click Site Variables.
*This may take a while to load since it is retrieving the coding that runs your site.*

Since this is a very long list you will want to search through the data for keywords - The item you are going to edit is the JobsAllowAnonymousAdd.

Then you will select the pencil icon or beneath this item.

You will be taken to the Edit page, here you will want to edit the Value, this can be done by simply typing the new value, or true.

Finally select the Update button.

Keep in mind that not requiring folks to log in to post jobs, means that anyone on the internet can post a job on your site.

Any Job Listing that's added will still require Admin Approval before the listing will appear.

Then click the button to Submit.

The next item you are going to check is the Jobs Payment Types. This value must include credit cards.

Select the pencil icon beneath this item to edit.

On the next page you will need to add credit cards.

After your site goes live...

As your release date nears, you may be concerned about going live with your new site. You know that your exposure will increase, resulting in more contacts and probably more questions from your existing site users. Before going live, try to attend a training session on the Tendenci software or take the online tutorial. And dont worry, we are just a phone call away. How do I log in? If your site has a prominent log in on the home page, enter your User Name and Password and click Log In. If your site does NOT have a log in link, add /en after your domain name to access the log in screen. (ex. www.yourdomain.com/en) Where do I get my User Name and Password? Your Schipul rep can email this to you. You should be set up with administrative rights and have logged in to the site before going live. If you have forgotten your login info, click the link on the Log In page to have this information e-mailed to you. How do I get my site users...

Taking your new site live

Taking your new site online can be a scary experience so we want to make the process as smooth as possible for you. We want your site to be in tip top shape before we do the official unveiling so this is the process that we take for each site to make sure they are ready to go live.

1. SEM Review:

Once the site is ready to go live (content wise) our Search Engine Marketing team will do an overview of the site and optimize the content, the title tags and the meta information for each of your pages. This process takes about an hour.

2. The Go Live Checklist:

After the SEM team has taken a look at the site, we do a go live checklist. The checklist is an overview of your site to double check that all images have alt tags, all links are good, all pages have content, etc. This process takes about an hour.

3. Move The Files:

After the checklist is done, your project manager will check in with you to make sure you are ready for us to take you live. In order to take your site online, we have to stop the development site, move your website files and database files to our production servers. This process takes about an hour.

4. DNS Changes:

Once the files and database have been moved, we are ready to make DNS changes to point your domain to the new site. DNS propagation can take up to 76 hours to complete. During this time, you may still see your old stie.

6. Final Updates:

After DNS changes have been made we can start looking for your fabulous new site online. Once you are able to see your new site, get in touch with your project manager to let them know. Your project manager will need to make a few updates to your new site so that images and links are all pointing correctly.

7. Smile, It's Over:

You can take a deep breath, it's over and all of your hard work is live for the world to see!
