Membership Type "Require Approval" Effect
When you add or edit a membership type, if the "Require Approval" checkbox is checked, every application of this membership type signed up by a user will be set to pending and requires approval by an admin.

Note that this does not affect the membership renewal. On renewal, memberships will be automatically set to active if it's free or if it's paid. Otherwise, it will be set to pending.
