Execution
Move to Tendenci 5 and Responsive Design
In June of 2012, we launched a newly designed website for long-time client The Children's Museum of Houston. This new site was built with Tendenci 5 to take advantage of the latest Tendenci technology and implement the new features of Tendenci 5 including rich media photo and video galleries and flexible events calendar functionality.
As part of the launch, our team also redesigned the website and implemented Responsive Design into the build. Prior to that, the Museum had a mobile site with a separate template and no tablet-specific version of the website.

Results
More Mobile Traffic, More Engaged Mobile Users
Mobile Stats
Our typical nonprofit client has seen a 30% increase in Mobile Traffic from 2012 to 2013.
With the addition of a Responsive Design, the Children's Museum of Houston has far outpaced that benchmark and seen a 75% increase in Mobile Traffic year over year!
More Mobile Traffic
Our typical nonprofit client has seen a 30% increase in Mobile Traffic from 2012 to 2013. The Children's Museum of Houston has far outpaced that benchmark with an over 75% increase in Mobile Traffic year over year!
Tablet traffic year over year has increased by 90%!
More Mobile Engagement
Not only is mobile traffic growing for the Children's Museum, these users are also more engaged on the site.
Typically as we see more visitors to a website, the new visitors tend to be slightly less engaged, because they are new to the brand.
Since the redesign, we have seen an increase in traffic overall and what we would expect with a slight decrease in engagement metrics like Pages/Visit and Time on Site for traffic overall. For Mobile Traffic, however, since incorporating Responsive Design into the website, we have seen pages per visit and average time spent per visit increase.
Why?
Search Engines Reward Mobile Usability in Mobile Search Results
Mobile-Optimized website content correlates to more Mobile Search Traffic as Google rewards mobile-ready websites for usability. Mobile Traffic from Search Engines has increased 14% year over year for the Children's Museum.
Visitors Want the Same Experience on a Mobile Site
Responsive Design accounts for any browser width - whether your visitors are on an iPhone, Android, or tablet device. Mobile and Tablet visitors can access the same content available on a desktop.
