If you are a nonprofit or have a charitable foundation, leverage Tendenci's Donations module to accept online contributions!
1. Consider if your organization is elegible to accept donations
Make sure your organization is eligible to accept donations. Consider, of course, if there are any legal barriers or tax implications.
2. Enable online payments
Integrate online payments in your Tendenci site, if you have not done so already.
3. Set up Charitable entities (i.e. Donation funds)
Set up your charitable entities. For example, if you have multiple funds that can be contrbitued to, when you are setting up entities, be sure to check the box "Use for donation allocation"
This will help streamline your financial reporting.
4. Configure your Donation settings
Now configure your Donations Settings by navigating to your "Donations" module - in your admin toolbar this is under Apps -> 6. Financial -> Donations
Once you are in the Donations module, in your toolbar under the Donations dropdown menu, select "Settings".
A. Specify an admin notice recipient to receive notices when donations are made.
B. If other than the default payment methods, set up which payment methods you will accept, separated by commas. Payment methods can be found at your admin backend -> 38. Payments -> Payment methods
If your organization does not have someone accepting checks and subsequently clearing invoices online, it is best to accept credit card online payment only.
C. Change the label if your organization uses verbiage other than "Donations"
D. Define preset donation amounts OR leave blank if the donor can opt to fill in their own donation amount.
5. Strategize your Donations by allowing members to donate when they join or renew
If you want to watch your donations grow, you can opt to allow members and/or corporate members to donate when they join or renew online by simply modifying your membership application(s).
Navigate to your memberships modules and to edit your membership application(s).
Select "Enable donation" and add a label and/or default amount a member can donate.
6. Link your Donations form to a CTA on your website!
Now you are ready to view your Donations form (YOURURL/donations). When you feel it is ready, plug this URL into a CTA button on your homepage, sidebar, site navigation, and/or anywhere else you feel is appropriate.
Presto! You are ready to accept donations online!
7. Reporting
View your Donations reporting online in your Donations module.
A. Utilize the Search Interface
YOURURL/donations/search
B. Review Financial Reporting
From your admin toolbar, navigate to the "Reports" tab -> 6. Financial to review financial reports such as "Donations on Join/Renewal", Invoice reporting (in which you can drill down to specific modules such as "Donations", as well as specific timeframes), and Top Spenders.
