This help file explains how to get to your Articles Module Settings to edit them and explains the different settings options. Before you begin adding new Articles to your Tendenci Website, you'll want to head to the Articles Module Settings and set them for your organization. You will also want to edit the Articles settings when you have new staff or volunteers that will be managing Articles content on the website.
Locating the Articles Module Settings
There are 2 methods to locating your Articles Settings Page to edit and update. Both options require that you are logged in as a Site Superuser in order to access and change the settings.
1) In your web browser's url bar, enter www.yourwebsite.com/settings/module/articles/
2) Navigate to the "Content" dropdown menu in your Blue Superuser Top Bar Menu and click on the Widget Icon next to Articles, as shown in this screenshot:
Configuring Articles Settings
Configuring the Articles Module settings is really easy. Here is an explanation, with screenshots, of each of the different settings.
Article Superuser Notice Recipients
Enter the email address of the person who will receive a notification anytime a new Article is added or an existing Article is deleted. You may enter multiple email addresses, separated by a comma. (example: staff1@email.com, staff2@email.com, staff3@email.com) To change the email(s) in this field, simply click on the text box and add, edit, and delete the text as appropriate.
Enabled
The Enabled setting enables or disables the Articles module. It is a dropdown menu with true/false options. Select "true" (default option) to enable Articles on your Tendenci website. Select "false" to disable the Articles Module.
Label
By default, Tendenci uses the label "Article" for this module. You can customize the name that your site visitors will see on the tabs and the Articles Search View by changing this field to something else. Some ideas other clients have used include: "Journal", "Daily Post", "announcements", "product updates", "cool happenings". We encourage you to use the Label to customize the look and feel of content on your website to match your organization.
Label (Plural)
By default, Tendenci uses the plural form "Articles" for this module. The Label(Plural) field allows you to customize the plural format for the Articles Module label. For example, if you customize the Label to be "Journal", you may want the plural to be "Journals".
**Note - Label and Label(Plural) will only change the label of the Articles Module to site visitors and users. When you go to your Blue Superuser Top Bar Menu or Superuser Panel, you will still see the module called Articles despite any custom label changes you make here. **
Root URL
The Root URL setting enables you to customize the URL for your Articles. By default, new articles will begin with the root url: www.yourwebsite.com/articles/{url-of-specific-article}. As an example: If you customize the root url to "journal", this would change the url for all articles to: www.yourwebsite.com/journal/{url-of-specific-article}.
**Changing this setting can take several minutes to fully update across all your articles on the website. If you change it, be aware that you may get errors and "page not found" messages until the software has implemented the new Root URL across all your content, this is normal. If it takes longer than 90 minutes, please contact our support team for assistance.**
Show Recent Articles
This setting will display other recent articles, with links, on an individual article's page.
Update Settings
Once you've configured the settings, just click the "Update Settings" button to save your changes.
