In the previous Help File (Overview of the Tendenci Photo Albums Module) we mentioned how to navigate in the photo albums page and how you can create photo galleries on your Tendenci website and share photos with your members and site visitors. In this Help File we are going to walk through the steps of creating a photo album and uploading photos so you can see how that looks.

To get to the photo album again you go to your adim menu and click on Apps (in the Superuser navigation bar), then 4.Member Enagagement, and finally click to Photo Album.

Photo Album Location

Since we're going to add a new photo album we'll click  Photo Album, add new album.

You can add the name, and a description if you would like. If you want to have any tags, you would add tags that would show up on each individual photo as well as the photo album itself. Then you have the option as you create your photo album to have your advanced permissions.

What Are Tags?

Tags are used to help organize content on your website. Tendenci also will use tags on certain modules in order to know what content to use for dynamic sections of your website, like your homepage rotator and sidebar. Tags are usually custom to both the module and to your organization's website.

Adding Photo Album Tag Section

If you go to the admin section of your website and navigate to the photos module, (or just type in your web browser http://yourwebsite.org/admin/photos/photoset/) then you can view the tags used for all of your photo albums.

How Do I Select a License?

The Select a License drop-down determines the photo's license and will inform the public about what rights they have for sharing (or not sharing) the image. We use Creative Commons attributions and you can learn more about Creative Commons on their website: https://creativecommons.org/about.

Photos have Advanced Permissions Controls

You can have photos that only certain members or groups can see that are private to your admin-only staff. At our company, we sometimes upload photo albums to give visual projects that we can share internally and we make them private so only the staff at our company can see them. An example of this would be a site that has a girl's gymnastics team and the families share photos of their children among each other registered on the site, privately and those photos aren't made public and can't be found on the search engines. So you can protect your images and share them with exactly who you want to.

At the bottom of the page, you can see the Status section, you can activate, inactivate, or set it to pending. Depending on your selection, it will make the whole photo album public and active, inactive (public cannot view), or pending (meaning that it is waiting to be approved or some edits are yet to be made).

This privacy feature can be edited directly on an image by clicking on the image and then edit, or directly in the photo album by clicking on Edit Set in the photo dropdown menu when inside the photo album.

After creating the new photo album, now we are redirected to adding the images. We can either dump the images in the presented box by dragging and dropping or click on Photo Album Uploading Images to photo album and proceed to select the images directly from your computer files, and upload multiple photos at a time.  The more photos you select the longer it will take the photos to upload especially when the photos have high resolution. After uploading all of the images, click on Photo Album Continue to Edit Photos after upload. This will take you to the bulk edit page where you will see all of the images in the selected photo album.

How to bulk edit images?

Whenever you upload an image or multiple images, you will always get redirected to the bulk edit page. Another way to access the page is by clicking on the album you would like to edit, then on the top admin bar select the Photos drop-down, and proceed to select Edit Photos.

Photo Album Bulk Edit Location

On this page, you will see all the images and their information. You can edit the: title, caption (description), name the photographer, add tags, select licenses (organizational purposes), change the group (organizational purposes), and category (organizational purposes), set it as an album cover, and delete multiple images.

On the right side of the screen you can see the following:

Photo Album Bulk Edit

Whatever is placed in these boxes will be applied to all the images in the selected photo album. If a box is left empty, it will not affect the other details of an image, only the boxes that have been filled. For example: let's say all the images were taken in Austin, TX and you want to add the location in the caption, then you would write the location under Replace all Captions and it will be added to all the images. This page is not limited to bulk edit only, if you wish to only edit one image then you can do that as well. Remember that if you edit a single image or multiple images always click on Save All Changes

In this section, the Tags and Licenses are used as mentioned before.
