The Society of Petroleum Engineers - Gulf Coast Section Upgrades to the Latest Version of Tendenci to Support Their Growing Network
Houston, TX — May 7, 2019
The Society of Petroleum Engineers - Gulf-Coast Section (SPE-GCS) is an internationally recognized leader within the petroleum industry, providing extensive professional development, networking, and educational opportunities to the Houston and surrounding areas since 1935. The most active section of SPE International, SPE-GCS has recently upgraded to the latest version of Tendenci software, relying on the feature-rich Tendenci Association Management System (AMS) to deliver a dynamic, responsive online community that serves their members with timely information on events and webinars hosted by the organization.
Dedicated to providing networking and educational resources, SPE-GCS boasts a full calendar of opportunities, easily searched and filtered for quick access to events of interest by their members. Upcoming and prominent events are dynamically displayed on the homepage, with targeted events listed within specific Group sections. New options to limit discounted tickets and automatically send emails on abandoned registrations allow event hosts to better manage their attendance counts.
Given the size of SPE-GCS, the organization is comprised of multiple Committees and Special Interest Groups that serve the needs of the association members. Each Committee and Group has a dedicated section within the website that dynamically filters information specific to their group -- sponsors, directors, events, files, and photos -- providing a custom experience for members of that Group.
Providing scholarships to students within the industry is a major focus of SPE-GCS. Small donations are included on every Event, with an opt-out selection, for aggregrating funds. Event templates provide a quick and easy way for event managers to add new events to the website with default information regarding pricing and donations already in place. Donations can also be made via one-time payments or by setting up recurring donations for ongoing, budgeted giving plans.
With membership handled at the SPE level, Tendenci worked with the SPE team to integrate an SSO for members to seamlessly validate against the SPE database at time of site login and redirecting members back to the SPE site for membership maintenance. The open source nature of Tendenci permits integration with third party systems for unlimited expansion and flexbility.
From a design perspective, SPE-GCS needed a layout that was professional, informative and mobile-responsive. With the software upgrade, they added a mega-menu for easier navigation, rotating ad space for financial support, sponsorship for individual events and committees/study groups, and grid-based Event and Resume lists for fast review of information. A solid information architecture provided the backbone for the intuitive graphical interface.
Tendenci is proud to have partnered with SPE-GCS for the last 20 years and support their mission to remain at the forefront of technology, leading the way for other organizations in the industry.
